On September 7, a lecture by Ernani Ribeiro, Professor at the University of Ceara, Brazil, was held as part of the regular scientific seminar of the Regional Scientific and Educational Mathematical Center of the Southern Federal University. The leaders of the seminar are Professors Alexey Karapetyants and Vladislav Kravchenko.
Ernani Ribeiro Jr. is a Ph.D., professor and director of the Graduate Program in Mathematics at the Federal University of Ceara, Brazil. Since 1999, he has won 13 prestigious awards in mathematics: for example, in 2022 he was awarded a Chebyshev grant at the ICM International Congress of Mathematicians, and in 2018 he became an elected (affiliated) member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Professor Ribeiro's academic interests are extensive and include many sections of differential geometry, geometric analysis, canonical metrics, etc.
On September 7, Professor Ernani Ribeiro gave a lecture at the seminar of the Russian Scientific Research Center of the Southern Federal University, where he considered the geometry of 4-dimensional compact gradient Ricci solitons. He showed that under the upper boundary condition on the domain of the potential function, a 4-dimensional compact gradient Ricci soliton must satisfy the classical Hitchin-Thorpe inequality. In addition, Professor Ribeiro presented some volume estimates and discussed a number of open problems related to these results.
The seminar "Seminar on Analysis, Differential Equations and Mathematical Physics" was attended by about forty mathematicians - specialists from leading scientific and educational centers of the world in Russia and other countries, including graduate students and students of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of SFedU and young scientists.
